🔌Getting Started with VFDs for Your CNC: The PwnCNC Guide

We currently support and supply the Delixi EM61 series VFD, available in both 110V and 220V versions, ideal for powering 1.5kW and 2.2kW air- or water-cooled spindles in hobby and semi-pro CNC machines.

📘 What Is a VFD, and Why Do You Need One?

A Variable Frequency Drive is a device that converts standard wall power (AC) into a variable-frequency output that controls the speed and torque of a 3-phase spindle motor. Without a VFD, you can’t safely run a CNC spindle or adjust its speed dynamically through software.

VFDs offer:

  • Adjustable spindle speed from 0 to 24,000 RPM

  • Smooth motor acceleration and braking

  • Overload protection and thermal safeguards

  • Remote control integration via CNC software or hardware switches

⚙️ The PwnCNC-Recommended VFD: Delixi EM61

We’ve tested several options and standardized around the Delixi EM61 for its:

  • Compact footprint

  • Easy setup with GRBL, Masso, and Other controllers

  • Dependable cooling and heat management
