If you are reading this article, you may have questions about installing a 65mm spindle on an older Onefinity Z-16 carriage using the factory 65mm mount.
This is not an issue with the spindle itself. Rather, it is a characteristic of the older Z-16 carriage design and the position of the factory 65mm mount. When the spindle is installed correctly, we have not found this to be a significant problem.
Below are several photos showing our 65mm air-cooled spindle installed on an older Onefinity machine.
To ensure proper installation:
- Lower the Z-axis completely.
- Insert the spindle into the mount, but do not tighten the mount yet.
- While supporting the spindle by hand, raise the Z-axis completely. This allows the mount to slide upward along the spindle body.
- Once the mount has reached its highest position, lift the spindle upward until it contacts the bottom of the Z-axis motor.
- Tighten the mount securely to hold the spindle in place.
When installed using this method, the spindle should sit in the correct position and operate as intended.
