Spindle Kit vs Spindle System: What’s the Difference?

If you’re here, you’re likely deciding between a Spindle Kit and a Spindle System — or trying to understand what makes them different.

The short answer:

Both use the same spindle motors.
Both use the same Delixi EM61 VFD.
Both produce the same cutting performance.

The difference is in integration, enclosure, and electrical refinement.

What Is a Spindle Kit?

“Spindle Kit VFD – functional, but requires enclosure and installation planning.”

A Spindle Kit includes:

  • Spindle motor (air or water cooled)

  • Delixi EM61 VFD

  • Motor cable

  • Power cable

  • Control cable

  • Basic documentation

The VFD is not enclosed in a finished housing.

You are responsible for:

  • Mounting or enclosing the VFD safely

  • Routing wiring cleanly

  • Managing strain relief

  • Implementing grounding properly

It is a clean, capable solution for experienced users who are comfortable working with electrical components.

What Is a Spindle System?

“Spindle System – same VFD, professionally integrated.”

A Spindle System includes everything in the Kit, plus:

  • Professionally built enclosure

  • Integrated power inlet

  • Aviation connectors

  • Proper strain relief

  • Grounding provisions

  • IoT port (if applicable)

  • Pre-configured layout for cleaner installs

The VFD inside is the exact same EM61 — it is simply installed in a purpose-built enclosure.

This removes electrical guesswork.

Performance Is Identical

This is important:

A Spindle Kit and a Spindle System will perform the same once installed correctly.

There is no hidden firmware difference.
There is no internal upgrade.

You are paying for:

  • Integration

  • Safety refinement

  • Reduced wiring decisions

  • Cleaner long-term reliability

Why Many Customers Choose the System

Over the years, we noticed a pattern.

Customers who bought Kits sometimes:

  • Mounted VFDs loosely

  • Skipped proper grounding

  • Overlooked strain relief

  • Used undersized enclosures

  • Experienced EMI-related issues

Not because the Kit was flawed — but because electrical integration matters.

The System was created to remove those variables.

Who Should Choose a Spindle Kit?

Choose the Kit if you:

  • Are comfortable wiring and enclosure design

  • Already have an electrical cabinet

  • Prefer full control over layout

  • Want the most cost-efficient entry point

Who Should Choose a Spindle System?

Choose the System if you:

  • Want plug-and-play refinement

  • Prefer not to design an enclosure

  • Value clean wiring

  • Want reduced installation variables

  • Plan to upgrade machines in the future and move the system easily

Can I Upgrade Later?

Yes.

If you start with a Spindle Kit, you can send the VFD back and upgrade to our enclosure later.

Many customers do this once they see the benefit of a refined install.

What About ATC Systems?

ATC Systems are different.

They include:

  • Industrial 4-pole spindle

  • Pneumatic control enclosure

  • Safety interlocks

  • Tool-change integration

ATCs build on top of the Spindle System foundation and include additional components.

ATC details are covered in the dedicated ATC section.

The Bottom Line

Spindle Kit = Same performance. More DIY.

Spindle System = Same performance. Less risk. Cleaner install.

We designed both intentionally.

The right choice depends on how much electrical integration you want to handle yourself.
