This article walks you through exactly what you should expect when opening your PwnCNC Conversion Kit – Advanced. The Advanced kit arrives more integrated than the Core kit, but it is still designed to adapt to many different CNC machines. Some things will look finished, some will not, and that is intentional.
If you are coming from a stock CNC control box, this will feel like a major upgrade. If you are coming from the Core kit documentation, think of this as the same foundation with more of the wiring already handled for you.
First Things First
The Conversion Kit Advanced is a prewired electronics system, not a drop-in appliance. It is designed to reduce wiring complexity and future expansion headaches, while still allowing flexibility for different machines and layouts.
You should expect:
-
More connectors and labeled ports
-
Fewer loose signal wires
-
Clear paths for future upgrades like ATC and rotary
-
Some unused connectors, by design
Unused ports do not mean missing parts.
Vital Components You Should See
MASSO G3 Touch Controller (PwnCNC-Branded)
-
Advanced-level firmware preinstalled
-
Tested and powered on before shipment
-
Ready for probe, tool setter, spindle, rotary, and ATC support
This controller is the same platform used in our Dominator Pro machines.
Prewired Inlets Panel
This is the most visually distinct part of the Advanced kit.
You will see labeled connections for:
-
XYZ Probe
-
Tool Setter
-
Spindle and Chiller
-
Rotary Axis
-
ATC System (future upgrade ready)
Not all ports will be used on day one. That is normal.
These ports are prewired internally to the MASSO controller to:
-
Reduce installation time
-
Minimize wiring mistakes
-
Standardize layouts across machines
Closed-Loop Stepper Motors (4 Total)
You will receive:
-
(3) identical motors for X and dual-Y axes
-
(1) Z-axis motor with integrated electric brake
The Z motor will have additional wiring for the brake. This is required for safe vertical axis control and is already supported in the Advanced firmware.
PwnCNC Power Box
-
Includes a 36V power supply
-
Accepts either 110V or 220V AC input adjustable using switch on the side
-
Preassembled and tested
This enclosure is sized to support the controller, motors, and expansion features of the Advanced kit.
Double-Shielded Stepper Motor Cables
-
Dual-layer shielding for improved EMI resistance
-
Terminated and labeled for each axis
Important note:
-
Shield drains are present but may not yet be bonded to earth
-
Final grounding depends on your machine and spindle setup
This is intentional and covered later in grounding documentation.
Proximity Homing Switches (x4)
-
Inductive proximity sensors
-
Prewired leads
-
Universal mounting style
Mounting brackets are not preinstalled because every CNC frame is different. We provide bracket designs when needed.
Things That May Look “Unused” but Are Correct
Unconnected Inlets
If you are not installing:
-
A tool setter
-
An XYZ probe
-
A rotary
-
An ATC
Those ports will remain unused. Do not remove or modify them.
They are there so you do not have to rewire the controller later.
Extra Cable Length
Cables are intentionally longer than required.
Do not cut them for if you do you will need to resolder aircraft connectors dramatically increasing installation complexity.
No External Relay Module
Some older photos show an external relay module.
That was a limited-time inclusion and is no longer part of the Advanced kit. All required functionality is handled internally.
Differences You’ll Notice vs the Core Kit
Compared to the Core kit, the Advanced kit includes:
-
Prewired inlets panel
-
Cleaner signal routing
-
Built-in support for accessories
-
Less direct wiring into the controller
Motion performance is the same. The difference is integration, expansion, and convenience.
Before You Start Installing
Before mounting anything:
-
Inventory all major components
-
Identify the Z motor with brake
-
Review which inlet ports you plan to use now vs later
-
Leave unused connectors alone
If something appears damaged or truly missing, stop and contact support before proceeding.
