4. What “Pre-Programmed” Really Means

When we describe our VFDs as pre-programmed, we want to be clear about what that means in real-world use, and just as importantly, what it does not mean.

This article explains what is handled before shipment and what remains part of normal controller integration.

What We Pre-Program

Every VFD we ship is:

  • Programmed with correct base parameters for the specific spindle motor you purchased

  • Configured for proper voltage, frequency range, acceleration limits, and protection settings

  • Set to operate within safe electrical and thermal limits

  • Bench-tested with an actual motor before shipment

This ensures the VFD and spindle are properly matched and in a verified working state when they leave our facility.

In short:
The VFD is ready to safely run the spindle.

What “Pre-Programmed” Does Not Mean

Pre-programmed does not mean:

  • Universal plug-and-play compatibility with every CNC controller

  • Zero setup under all circumstances

  • Automatic adaptation to undocumented or unsupported hardware

CNC controllers vary widely in how they manage spindle control, including:

  • 0–5V vs 0–10V analog signals

  • PWM vs true analog voltage

  • Relay logic behavior

  • Firmware-specific safety logic

These differences exist at the controller level, not inside the VFD.

Controller Integration Is Normal

If you are using a controller we actively document and support, setup is typically very close to plug-and-play.

If you are using a third-party or less common controller, normal integration steps may include:

  • Adjusting voltage scaling

  • Tuning PWM-to-voltage conversion

  • Configuring spindle enable relays

  • Verifying firmware spindle expectations

These steps are not a defect in the VFD. They are part of CNC system integration.

Why We Don’t Pre-Program for Every Controller

There are hundreds of controllers in circulation today, many with:

  • Multiple firmware revisions

  • Custom wiring implementations

  • Limited documentation

While we actively test common platforms and publish known-good configurations, it is not feasible to pre-program for every possible controller variation.

The controller manufacturer remains the authority for how their system handles spindle control.

Our Commitment

We commit to:

  • Shipping properly programmed and tested VFDs

  • Being transparent about compatibility boundaries

  • Publishing clear setup documentation

  • Helping you determine fit before purchase

Our goal is successful integration, not unrealistic compatibility claims.

Key Takeaway

“Pre-programmed” means your VFD and spindle are properly matched, safely configured, and tested.

Final behavior depends on your CNC controller, which is normal in CNC systems.

Understanding this distinction avoids confusion and leads to smoother setup.
