🧩 Understanding ATC Motor Connections — Made Simple

At first glance, the top of the spindle motor can look a bit overwhelming—but don’t worry. If you take it one connection at a time, the process is straightforward. Be sure to reference the images at the bottom of this article for visual guidance.

🔄 Pneumatic Connections

  • 6mm “Dust” Hose
Connect the lower “dust” port on the Pneumatics Enclosure to the dedusting/air seal port on the motor using the 6mm hose with the Y-splitter.

  • 6mm “Tool” Hose
Connect the upper “tool” port on the Pneumatics Enclosure to the motor’s Tool Change port using the second 6mm hose.

đź’§ Water Cooling Connections

  • The motor has two Kool connectors for water cooling.
Each connector should be paired with a female Kool fitting and connected to your water lines accordingly.

⚡ Electrical Connections

  • Power (UVW) Port
This connects to your spindle cable coming from the VFD.

  • NPN Signal Wire
This connects via a smaller 4-pin connector to the MTR port on the Pneumatics Enclosure.

🧰 Cable Management Tip

Unfortunately, the NPN wire and spindle cable are longer than ideal (we would’ve preferred them about 12" shorter). While this can make cable routing a bit tricky, zip ties can help manage excess length. We're also exploring alternative cable management options for future improvement.
