Parameter Read-Write Abnormity Damage of EEPROM Chip

ERR26 – Parameter Read/Write Abnormality

What this means

ERR26 indicates that the VFD has detected a failure when reading from or writing to its internal memory (EEPROM).

In simple terms, the VFD cannot reliably store or retrieve configuration parameters. This memory is what allows the VFD to remember settings when powered off.

This is a hardware-level fault, not a configuration or usage issue.

Why This Happens

The EEPROM chip inside the VFD is responsible for:

  • Saving parameters

  • Retaining configuration data

  • Storing system settings across power cycles

ERR26 is triggered when the VFD detects that this memory is:

  • Corrupted

  • Unreadable

  • Unable to store new data

Most Common Causes We See

1. EEPROM memory failure (most common)

  • Internal memory degradation

  • Manufacturing defect

  • End-of-life memory wear

EEPROM chips have finite write cycles, though failure is uncommon.

2. Severe electrical events

  • Power surges

  • Brownouts

  • Lightning strikes

  • Improper power disconnects during parameter writes

These can corrupt internal memory.

3. Internal control board failure

  • Damage to the main control board

  • Failed memory interface circuitry

This typically accompanies other unstable behavior.

What to Check First

Step 1: Power cycle the VFD

  • Turn off and unplug the VFD

  • Wait several minutes

  • Power back on and observe

If ERR26 immediately reappears, the issue is persistent.

Step 2: Attempt a parameter reset (if accessible)

If the VFD allows:

  • Perform a parameter initialization or factory reset

If the reset fails or settings will not save, this confirms a memory issue.

What ERR26 Is Not

  • Not a spindle motor fault

  • Not a wiring issue

  • Not a cutting load problem

  • Not a controller or communication error

  • Not EMI related

ERR26 is not something that can be fixed through tuning or configuration.

Required Action

ERR26 indicates hardware failure of the VFD’s internal memory.

At this point:

  • Continued operation is unreliable

  • Parameters may not save correctly

  • Safe operation cannot be guaranteed

The correct resolution is replacement of the VFD control board or the VFD itself.

When to Contact Support

If you encounter ERR26:

We can help:

  • Confirm the diagnosis

  • Determine warranty status

  • Advise on replacement options

Summary

ERR26 means the VFD has detected a failure of its internal EEPROM memory.

Most common causes:

  • Internal memory damage

  • Electrical events

  • Control board failure

This is a hardware fault and cannot be resolved through configuration changes.
Replacement of the control electronics is required.
